I recently acquired a new Syba PCI PATA/SATA card for a computer I am
refitting. On a fresh Linux Mint 15 install (base operating system
Ubuntu Raring,) it is recognized by lspci, but does not function.

Manually loading the sata_via kernel module has no effect.
This seems to be the same issue as reported by "Montblanc" in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/843639. As it
does not appear that he has posted a new bug report, I am submitting
my own system information here.
