Bug description:
Binary package hint: kernel-image-2.6.24-18-generic-di
This bug is concerning the support for the Adaptec 2100S RAID
controller under Ubuntu 8.06 with the x86_64 kernel. This controller
is DPT I2O-based, so there are two possible Linux kernel drivers,
i2o_block and dpt_i2o. The dpt_i2o driver is not currently available
with the x86_64 kernel, so this leaves the i2o_block driver. When I
use the i2o_block driver and copy a large amount of data (~20GB) from
the RAID device (e.g., cp -rp /raid_partition /non_raid_partition), I
encounter numerous I/O errors and eventually the cp hangs, stuck at
100% CPU usage. As a workaround, I was able to boot with the Ubuntu
8.06 32-bit Live CD, use the dpt_i2o driver, and copy the files
without errors.
