[Bug 1213917] Re: kworker thread consuming 99.8 - 100% CPU after update
Also, this issue appears to be an upstream bug, since you tested the
latest upstream kernel. Would it be possible for you to open an upstream
bug report[0]? That will allow the upstream Developers to examine the
issue, and may provide a quicker resolution to the bug.
Please follow the instructions on the wiki page[0]. The first step is to
email the appropriate mailing list. If no response is received, then a
bug may be opened on bugzilla.kernel.org.
Once this bug is reported upstream, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-
reported-upstream'.

Title:
kworker thread consuming 99.8 - 100% CPU after update
Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
Confirmed
Bug description:
After updating today (hadn't updated for a while), my fan won't stop
and top is showing:
PID USER PR NI VIRT RES SHR S %CPU %MEM TIME+ COMMAND
4 root 20 0 0 0 0 R 100,2 0,0 36:42.35 kworker/0:0
Edit: seems related to bug 1214071. I can reproduce with:
1) Start with a fresh reboot
2) suspend and resume
At this point after the successful resume, kworker thread starts
consuming 100% cpu and I can no longer suspend (bug 1214071).
