[Bug 1199217] Re: Dell laptops' ST Microelectronics Free Fall Sensor (accelerometer) [pnp:8810] cannot be detected at all

Kernel module works if there's an SMO8800 or SMO8810 in
/sys/bus/acpi/devices/. The dell-smo8800 is already merged in kernel
3.16, so you'll need an utopic kernel to use it at least for now.

Userspace daemon can be found at
https://launchpad.net/~wenchien/+archive/ubuntu/freefall
If there's any issue with this package, please let me know, thanks.

Title:
Dell laptops' ST Microelectronics Free Fall Sensor (accelerometer)
[pnp:8810] cannot be detected at all

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  CID: 201201-10339 Dell Latitude E6530 [1]
  CID: 201307-13941 Dell Latitude E5440 [2]

According to the information provided by Dell, these systems should have an accelerometer on the motherboard (Free-Fall sensor), but it cannot be detected at all
  (cannot be found in /proc/bus/input/devices)

If using windows, it shows ACPI/SMO8810 in device manager
If you run "lspnp", you can see:
  00:0c SMO8810 (unknown)
