It also hung for me.
The supplied realtek driver wouldn't build, either.

https://github.com/pvaret/rtl8192cu-fixes is a ported fix of the
realtek's supplied driver.

drivers-3444749-ubuntu-1304/ seems to be a deb of that.

  Network connection is OK but after a random amount of time passes it
  does not respond.  I click on the network I am connected to and it
