No. This has been going on ever since I purchased the laptop, about a
year ago. From what I gather on the web, this is a problem everyone with
a Tishiba Satellite, switching to Linux, has had.

  Realtek RTL 8188EE wifi problems

Bug description:
  Intermittent speeds and connectivity. Limited speeds--not more than
  300kb at best. No drivers available from Realtek. Occasionally, works
  if wifi is turned of and then on again, but still have intermittentcy
  problem as before.
