[Bug 1338555] Re: Keyboard completely unresponsive
Although I've probably been using Ubuntu for longer than the vast majority of users on this site, I've never really done any technical procedures as the one you've requested. So I'll give a detailed description of my steps so you can see if I messed up on the results.
First I went to the link https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds?action=show&redirect=KernelMainlineBuilds and I read the 'Installing upstream kernels' section which I tried to follow.
I then went to the 'Upstream kernels archive' link http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D and then to the “top link” which was [v4.0-rc1-vivid/ 23-Feb-2015 04:19] which in turn took me to the page http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.0-rc1-vivid/ and from there I downloaded
linux-headers-4.0.0-040000rc1-generic_4.0.0-040000rc1.201502222235_i386.deb 23-Feb-2015 04:16 1.1M
linux-headers-4.0.0-040000rc1_4.0.0-040000rc1.201502222235_all.deb 23-Feb-2015 03:36 13M
linux-image-4.0.0-040000rc1-generic_4.0.0-040000rc1.201502222235_i386.deb 23-Feb-2015 04:16 52M
As directed I put them in a single folder and ran the [sudo dpkg -i *.deb] to install them, I suppose.
At restart I didn't find a new entry in my boot menu as stated in the wiki however I found the kernel number starting with 4 after entering the 'Advanced options for Ubuntu' entry which was
*Ubuntu, with Linux 4.0.0-040000rc1-generic
After booting into it the keyboard was working as normal so I added the Tag (kernel-fixed-upstream kernel-fixed-upstream-4.0.0-040000rc1) as requested.
I hope this was of help.
