[Bug 1446312] Re: On Thinkpad T431s, plugged-in AC adapter not detected

On further testing, this looks like a hardware failure; the timing with
the kernel upgrade is probably coincidence. Booting to an older kernel
does not fix the problem, and charge detection works as expected when
using the dock connector.

(Turns out the laptop was also not *charging* when plugged in and
powered on, but would charge when plugged in and powered off. Weird, but
probably not software's fault?)

Title:
On Thinkpad T431s, plugged-in AC adapter not detected

Status in linux-lts-utopic package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
In the last several days, the Unity UI has started to always show that
my laptop is running on battery, even when the AC adapter is
connected. Annoyingly, this bad reading of state seems to extend to
auto-suspend logic, so the laptop will auto-suspend when at low
battery even after I've plugged in the AC adapter.

The hardware is clearly working - the battery charge level does
increase when I plug in the adapter, and the built-in indicator (three
flashes of the power indicator light when the adapter is connected)
shows that at some low level the plug event is being detected.

My assumption is that this is kernel-related, but I don't really know
that for sure; attached is my APT log, showing my most recent few
dist-upgrades. The one on 4/12 is for reference about past package
versions only; the dist-upgrade on 4/16 is the last one before this
issue popped up; and the one on 4/20 was my attempt to upgrade in the
hopes that a fix had already been released. The only thing that
catches my eye is the upgrade from kernel 3.16.0-34.45~14.04.1 to
kernel 3.16.0-34.47~14.04.1, which seems to include several
  thinkpad_acpi changes.
