Title:
BTRFS [Toshiba L735-101] screen brightness cannot be set using hotkeys
Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
Confirmed
Bug description:
On my Toshiba L735-101, using btrfs, screen brightness keys do not
allow screen brightness to be set. Actual brightness is always maximum
(i.e. much too bright...).
If I boot "normally" , screen brightness keys have no effect at all.
If I boot adding the "acpi_backlight=vendor" option, then the
brighness hotkeys cause the corresponding pop-up level bar to display
(modulo bug #971734), still there is no change on actual screen
brightness.
Video board is :
[ 74.130] (II) NVIDIA(0): NVIDIA GPU GeForce 315M (GT218) at PCI:1:0:0 (GPU-0)
Boot dmesg shows some funny stuff :
[ 3.346332] [Firmware Bug]: ACPI(VGA) defines _DOD but not _DOS
Putting the following in /etc/X11/xorg.conf does not help:
Option "RegistryDwords" "EnableBrightnessControl=1"
# ll /sys/class/backlight/toshiba/
total 0
drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 0 avril 2 19:20 ./
drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 0 avril 2 19:20 ../
-r--r--r-- 1 root root 4096 avril 2 19:47 actual_brightness
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 4096 avril 2 19:47 bl_power
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 4096 avril 2 19:23 brightness
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 avril 2 19:47 device -> ../../../TOS1900:00/
-r--r--r-- 1 root root 4096 avril 2 19:23 max_brightness
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 0 avril 2 19:47 power/
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 0 avril 2 19:20 subsystem -> ../../../../../../class/backlight/
-r--r--r-- 1 root root 4096 avril 2 19:23 type
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 4096 avril 2 19:20 uevent
=> Using the brightness hotkeys cause the value of "brightness" to
change here (only if booted with "acpi_backlight=vendor"), but the
value of "actual_brightness" doesn't change (nor the screen actual
brigthness...)
