  WWAN device no longer works in 14.04 or higher

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  I have been using a Novatel USB720 successfully for years on Ubuntu -
  after upgrading to 14.04 (then doing a complete clean install), I
  continue to get this in my dmesg:
