Title:
  Adaptec SCSI controller causes modprobe hang

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  We recently upgraded to Ubuntu 12.04, as a clean install. Now cannot access scsi devices reliably.
  We were previously running 10.04, and had no issues there. Under 10.04, no special configuration was needed.

  Kernel is latest 3.2.0 pae for precise, have also tried a 3.0 kernel.

  We use an Adaptec 29160 SCSI controller, the relevant kernel module is aic7xxx.
  There is a Sony tape autochanger attached to this, used for network backups
  This worked correctly under 10.04, but since the install of 12.04, there have been continuous problems.
  Typically this is triggered when trying to access either the tape device, or the changer device, or sometimes using sginfo -l to list available devices, or using mtx to control the changer.

  The principle symptom is that the modprobe to setup the scsi devices
  is hanging, and kernel messages are reported showing timeout errors
  after 240 seconds. (I think)

  The outcome of this for us it that we cannot run bacula to backup our
  servers and clients, and that the auto changer is unusable for any
  other application.

  I have tried using the no_probe option for aic7xxx, in both the
  modprobe config, and kernel command line, does not seem to help.
