[Bug 1455914] Re: usb ports dies under certain known circumstances
Jan Georg Forsdahl, could you please test the latest upstream kernel
available from the very top line at the top of the page (the release
names are irrelevant for testing, and please do not test the daily
folder) following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will
allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue.
If the test did not allow you to test to the issue (ex. you couldn't boot into the OS) please make a comment in your report about this, and continue to test the next most recent kernel version until you can test to the issue. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon, next to the word Tags, located at the bottom of the report description:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-X.Y-rcZ
Where XY and Z are numbers corresponding to the kernel version.
If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-X.Y-rcZ
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's
Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results.
Thank you for your understanding.

Title:
usb ports dies under certain known circumstances
Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
I bougth a brand new Lenovo Z710 for my mother in law who is near 80. In stead of trying to teach her win8, I installed Ubuntu desktop 14.04 on it, without even bothering to go through the win8 installation. Apart from ubuntu standard software I've installed teamviewer (she lives 100km away), wine (there are some win programs she wants), a danish-english dictionary (under wine) and photofiltre 7 (under wine).
It works like a charm right out of the box - except, if I boot or resume it with anything in the external usb ports, the external usb ports dies (not shure about the internal ones) ubuntu acts normal except the external usb ports - power is there but nothing gets detected. However if I boot it up without anything plugged in, I can later plug in an external mouse and hd's without any problems.
I've googled and search everywhere without finding anything useful, I've tried an other kernel, I've switch form UEFI boot to legacy boot and back, I've tested the usb 2 and the usb 3 ports, I've reinstalled and I've of course tried an other mouse and other usb hardware - everything without getting any wiser. The only thing I've not done is to install win8.
From what I can see in dmesg (I'm far from an expert) the usb behaves normally untill right before the end of the boot process, the mouse are detected and installed but doesn't work and lsusb shows no devices at all.
I've attached dumps of lsusb and dmesg in working and non-working
state plus some additional information and really hope someone at
launchpad can help out.
Thanks in advance
