You should probably report a new bug,
as this one is closed a long time ago.

Bug description:
I tried installing the alpha version of 12.04 from precise-desktop.i386.iso
30-Jan-2012 08:29 714M Desktop CD for PC(Intel x86) computers (standard download)
into VMWare running on Ubuntu 10.04
It started and offered to install Ubuntu 12.04 into the VM. But the mouse cursor was not visible
during the installation process. However installation was possible using tab and newline.
Once Ubu 12.04 was installed into the VM the mouse cursor was still
not visible which made using it difficult.
However installing VMWare Giest Additions into the VM enabled the mouse cursor and I could use the mouse
in the VM window.
It would be nice to have the use of the mouse during the testing and installation phase, which I think is the
standard thing that happens when installing OS's into VMWare.
