ishbalai, just to clarify, my meaning is using open source drivers only
(i.e. no proprietary nvidia drivers installed).

It is considered another bug when one uses the nvidia proprietary driver, and is not the scope of this report. You are welcome to file a new report on that via a terminal:
ubuntu-bug xorg

Please feel free to subscribe me to it.

Regarding only using the default open source drivers, the issue you are
reporting is an upstream one. Could you please report this problem to
the appropriate mailing list (linux-input) by following the instructions
verbatim at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/kernel ?

Please provide a direct URL to your e-mail to the mailing list once you
have made it so that it may be tracked via http://vger.kernel.org/vger-
lists.html . It can take a day for the new e-mail to show up in the
respective archive.

+ WORKAROUND: The backlight can be manually set while running on the

- What I mean by this is that the hotkeys for the backlight does not do
- anything. The backlight can be manually set while running on the
- integrated intel graphics. (Not with hotkeys).

- The nvidia GPU is not detected until Nvidias official drivers are
- installed. And after installing that driver (any version) the backlight
- can not be changed at all.
