Wifi authentication times out immediately

Bug description:
After upgrading to Ubuntu 15.04, wifi connections fail (not sure about the router configuration that causes connections to fail).
Seems like regression from 14.10 (my wifi tethering from my Android used to work, but now it doesn't).
I have a Lenovo Y50, chipset Intel 3160.

Tried using versions 12 / 7 of the driver as suggested here
(http://askubuntu.com/questions/611222/cannot-connect-to-wifi-intel-
corporation-wireless-3160), no avail.
