Today I issued an apt-get dist-upgrade and the kernel has been upgraded to
the above.

I always had this issue but only when getting back from hibernation (I've
installed only a couple of months ago)

After the upgrade of today the issues become severe.. I cannot have a
coffee without rebooting afterwards :)
Today only I've seen the panic message on the console and more logging
about nouveau

I'm going to try 4.1-rc8-unstable from kernel-ppa/mainline and report back
from here
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.1-rc8-unstable/linux-headers-4.1.0-040100rc8-generic_4.1.0-040100rc8.201506150335_amd64.deb

  Laptop freeze with panic error

Bug description:
  When getting back to the pc and the screen is turned off, the pc
  freeze and sometime show a message like (sorry do not have full
  message)
