[Bug 1480920] Re: Black screen on monitor connected via Mini Display Port

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v4.2 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
"Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

Title:
Black screen on monitor connected via Mini Display Port

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
I'm on Dell XPS 13 2015 edition, since about two weeks, my second
monitor connected via Mini Display Port doesn't work well ; ie the
screen led report it as "on", the "Settings -> Display" tools detect
it successfully, screen is extended, BUT screen stay black.

Sometimes, while I'm working (with the black screen on the second
monitor), the second monitor woke up. I can use it, but after
automatic "screen turn off" (while I'm away), the second screen
  doesn't woke up.

If I disconnect-reconnect, the mini display port, nothing happens, and
Xorg.0.log doesn't detect something (this is why I've opened the bug
on "linux-image-generic" and not on "Xorg").

I would be happy to find my second display working again, and help to fix the problem.
Please, let me know how I can help, report, test, etc...
