Title:
  Cannot set IP address

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
After upgrading to 8.10, I couldn't connect to my router. My router is
set as a DHCP server which has alwas worked fine.

I tried to set the IP address manually, first by setting /etc/network/interfaces and restarting the networking daemon.
That failed and I had to revert the file.

Then I tried to set it using ifconfig:
  # ifconfig eth0 192.168.1.2 netmask 255.255.255.0
That failed with the following error: SIOCSIFADDR: No buffer space available.

After fiddling around some more, I put my backup back (a working
hardy) and retried the upgrading procedure. It failed again. Now I'm
back on Hardy and I'm waiting for the 8.10 CD to arrive and try a
  clean install.
