Title:
Hardy randomly locks up during shutdown
Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
Invalid
Bug description:
Hardy has randomly locked up on shutdown on my Dell Inspiron 500m
since it first came out. I've tried clean installs and several tips
from similar shutdown related bugs/fixes. This bug also affects log-
out and other related processes.
While I have not been able to recreate the problem when I wanted to, I
do know immediately when it happens since the screen immediately goes
black (no progress bar).
If I do not realize that the shutdown is incomplete, I often realize
it several hours later when the fan is on full and the case is hot.
There is no time that the keyboard is useful once the blank screen is
present (no Ctrl-Alt-Backspace or any other key sequence has worked
including REISUB).
The closest bug to this I've found is Bug 231533, and I've posted some
details there as well but it hasn't drawn any flies and is a couple
months old. I've searched through several bugs that sounded similar,
and tried the fixes presented, but have not found one that works.
