Title:
3.13.0-58 (also 3.13.0-59, 61) bursting Lenovo Y470N
Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
Confirmed
Bug description:
Update: it seems that this change happened in 3.13.0-58, not
3.13.0-59.
I observed the temperature for a hour running in 3.13.0-58 and
3.13.0-57 without any operation. And found that the temperature using
3.13.0-57 is only around 50°C. So it seems that the problem started at
3.13.0-58 and was getting worse ever since.
Here is the temperature in 3.13.0-57 when writing this update.
~$ sudo sensors
acpitz-virtual-0
Adapter: Virtual device
temp1: +48.0°C (crit = +127.0°C)
coretemp-isa-0000
Adapter: ISA adapter
Physical id 0: +49.0°C (high = +86.0°C, crit = +100.0°C)
Core 0: +49.0°C (high = +86.0°C, crit = +100.0°C)
Core 1: +47.0°C (high = +86.0°C, crit = +100.0°C)
----
I noticed my Lenovo Y470N is really hot after switching to kernel
3.13.0-61. Then I installed 3.13.0-59 (which I didn't use before) to
have a test and had the similar phenomenon.
Prior to 3.13.0-59, the usual temperature of my Y470N is around 60°C.
~$ sudo sensors
acpitz-virtual-0
Adapter: Virtual device
temp1: +56.0°C (crit = +127.0°C)
coretemp-isa-0000
Adapter: ISA adapter
Physical id 0: +57.0°C (high = +86.0°C, crit = +100.0°C)
Core 0: +57.0°C (high = +86.0°C, crit = +100.0°C)
Core 1: +56.0°C (high = +86.0°C, crit = +100.0°C)
When I was using 3.13.0-59 or 3.13.0-61. The temperature never goes
down to 65°C. In most cases, it's around 70°C.
~$ sudo sensors
[sudo] password for fkj:
acpitz-virtual-0
Adapter: Virtual device
temp1: +66.0°C (crit = +127.0°C)
coretemp-isa-0000
Adapter: ISA adapter
Physical id 0: +70.0°C (high = +86.0°C, crit = +100.0°C)
Core 0: +70.0°C (high = +86.0°C, crit = +100.0°C)
Core 1: +65.0°C (high = +86.0°C, crit = +100.0°C)
After surfing the web for half an hour this can even up to 90°C. For
example, here's the sensors result after I finish typing this bug
report.
~$ sudo sensors
acpitz-virtual-0
Adapter: Virtual device
temp1: +84.0°C (crit = +127.0°C)
coretemp-isa-0000
Adapter: ISA adapter
Physical id 0: +87.0°C (high = +86.0°C, crit = +100.0°C)
Core 0: +87.0°C (high = +86.0°C, crit = +100.0°C)
Core 1: +83.0°C (high = +86.0°C, crit = +100.0°C)
As a result the fan is getting louder and louder every time. And I can
sense the taste of burnt at the air vent.
