[Bug 1492824] Re: Intel NIC ignore sometimes all received messages

Borim, as per http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z87E-
ITX/?cat=Download&os=BIOS an update to your computer's buggy and
outdated BIOS is available (2.50). If you update to this following
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything?

If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, and the information above is provided, then
please mark this report Status Confirmed.

Thank you for your understanding.

Title:
Intel NIC ignore sometimes all received messages

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
From time to time my home server can not communicate over the LAN. The IP address and gateway is set, but no other PC in the network is reachable.
My network consist normally of the router and the server connected over LAN and my notebooks (1 windows, 1 linux) over WLAN. As I am was not sure if this was a bug in my server or the router, I bought a switch with port mirroring. I placed it between my router and server.
The first observation was that with this new network structure the bug still occurs.

I mirrored the ports connected with my server and router and analyse
it with my linux notebook connected to the switch. When trying to ping
my router from the server I saw traffic from both devices, but the
ping program says always host unreachable.

I plugged my notebook into another non-mirrored port and tested if I can access my router. Everything worked fine(Ping, internet). So the bug seems an issue of my server.
After more testing and looking up different information over eth0, I realized that my server sends messages but did not receive any. The ifconfig output is attached. The weird thing is that received, dropped messages and overrun are 0, although messages were transmitted to the server. Visible by the blinking leds at the switch and the traffic of the mirrored ports.
The loopback interface is working, so ping localhost works as usual.

A workaround for the bug is to deactivate the network in the network
manager, waiting some seconds and activate it again. After it
everything works as it should. An reboot of the server works also. So
this is hardly problem of the LAN cables.

The wake on lan function is activated for eth0 with the ethtools. The
bug also occur when I start the server with a WOL message. The server
starts, but you can not connect to it (ping, ssh, ....). By the way
this is the time when this bug becomes really annoying.

If required I can provide a syslog from today with a server start at
the morning, where everything works fine, and a start in the afternoon
where the server is not reachable. As it contain private data I will
  not post it public.
