Message #137765
[Bug 1501497] [NEW] Cannot enter passphrase during boot to decrypt root filesystem
You have been subscribed to a public bug:
I have DELL XPS 13 9343-2258 i7-5500U. with ubuntu 15.04 and encrypted root filesystem.
A few days ago it received system upgrade which updated linux kernel to 3.19.0-30-generic
Since then I cannot type password for decrypting root filesystem during boot.
Just after I turn on computer, usual graphical screen with "Enter passphrase" text and edit box appears but any character I type is not entered into edit box but shows up in the top-left corner of the screen. Pressing enter starts a new line of text in that corner.
I can workaround this problem by entering grub menu and choosing to boot
with configuration for previous kernel (3.19.0-28-generic). When started
this way, enter passphrase screen works correctly - typed characters
ends up inside edit box.
** Affects: linux (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided
Status: New
