[Bug 1501993] Re: drivers/gpu/drm/i915/intel_display.c:12326 check_crtc_state+0x2c5/0x440 [i915]()

Martin Smith, let the scope of this report be only the kernel call trace
mentioned in the Description.

Regarding errors noticed in logs, this is not typically considered a
bug, especially considering there is no noticed usability impact.

Pivoting back to the call trace, the next step is to fully reverse
commit bisect from kernel 4.2 to 4.3-rc3 in order to identify the last
bad commit, followed immediately by the first good one. Once this commit
has been identified, then it may be reviewed as a candidate for
backporting into your release. Could you please do this following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBisection#How_do_I_reverse_bisect_the_upstream_kernel.3F
?

Please note, finding adjacent kernel versions is not fully commit
bisecting.

Thank you for your understanding.

Title:
  drivers/gpu/drm/i915/intel_display.c:12326
  check_crtc_state+0x2c5/0x440 [i915]()

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
I'm seeing a kernel hang when I 'dock' my laptop into my docking station; this happens with 4.2, specifically with:
  linux-image-extra-4.2.0-11-generic
  linux-image-extra-4.2.0-12-generic
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1501993/+attachment/4483862/+files/kern.log

At this point I lose video, and can't do much else without a hard
  reboot back to linux-image-extra-3.19.0-30-generic.
