I was able to solve the problem by modifying some GRUB settings that I found in an Archlinux post;  strangely, the others that I found in StackExchange properly for Ubuntu didn't do the job. 

I wondered if you still recommend posting about it.

  Brightness keys or brightness settings controls do not change the
  brightness or display as intended.

  However, If I run the following command it works perfectly:
