[Bug 1223840] Re: Intel HDMI Audio not working with IOMMU enabled

Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a
kernel version where you were not having this particular problem? This
will help determine if the problem you are seeing is the result of the
introduction of a regression, and when this regression was introduced.
If this is a regression, we can perform a kernel bisect to identify the
commit that introduced the problem.

Title:
Intel HDMI Audio not working with IOMMU enabled

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I am using Ubuntu Saucy Development Branch and I noticed that the HDMI
audio output of the intel graphics stops working if the IOMMU is
enabled with the kernel boot parameter intel_iommu=on. I need the
IOMMU to pass an ATI graphics card to a qemu virtual machine.

My hardware consists of an ASUS Sabertooth Z87 mainboard with an Intel
  i7 4770 cpu (Haswell).

The HDMI output is detected and displayed correctly but no sound can
be heard. If the IOMMU is disabled, everything works fine.
