I built a Vivid test kernel with the five commits I also mentioned in
comment #52.  There were also some prerequisite commits required to get
the patches to apply to a 3.19 kernel.  The following commits were
applied:

Bug description:
  The generation 2 VM has been assinged a memory range of 512 MiB-
  4096MiB with a starting memory of 512 MiB. It should get additional
  memory when needed, but the total available memory in the VM stays at
  the intial 512 MiB and the kernel starts swapping instead of
  allocating more memory from the host.
