[Bug 1509556] Re: Kubuntu Wily upgrade screen glitch with 4.2 kernel
I'm experiencing a similar problem after upgrade to Kubuntu Wily, though
in my case I have flickering when setting a lower resolution
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/plasma-desktop/+bug/1514167).
The flickering makes the system quite unusable. I also tried to set the
UXA acceleration but that does not help (it actually makes things even
worse: slower and flickering does not go away).
The problem is with the current kernel
4.2.0-17-generic #21-Ubuntu SMP Fri Oct 23 19:56:16 UTC 2015 x86_64
x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
Switching to the old kernel on boot SOLVES the problem of flickering and
things are usable again:
3.19.0-32-generic #37-Ubuntu SMP Wed Oct 21 10:23:06 UTC 2015 x86_64
x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
This is my card:
sudo lshw -c video

Title:
Kubuntu Wily upgrade screen glitch with 4.2 kernel
Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
On recent update from 15.04 to 15.10, the new 4.2 kernel is associated with graphics instability after a few seconds of GUI use with mouse and keyboard making the GUI unusable. See another person's same experience with intel graphics here:
askubuntu.com/questions/688649/kubuntu-wily-upgrade-screen-glitch
Downgrading to the last 15.04 kernel solves my issue.
See result of ubuntu-bug linux from the terminal attached.
