[Bug 1516407] Re: Ethernet interface stops working after a few seconds
Christopher, no issues with before upgrading to 15.10. A few days after
the upgrade I noticed that the Laptop freezes from time to time and
sometimes does not suspend, when I close the lid. That looks like an
ACPI issue for me.
I am currently travelling abroad, so my options to reinstall or debug
are limited. Do you have any idea, how I could get the ethernet
interface working?
I played a bit around and noticed that network interface is working from
for a few seconds now and then. Looking at ping output, there are
between 20 and 50 seconds "downtime" and

I made some newlines to show that there is no exact frequence. The acpi
messages from above only show up when I plug the cable, so I am no
longer certain that this issue is ACPI related.

Not sure anymore that my ethernet issue is ACPI related. The ACPI
messages are there, but maybe they are not related. My new suspect is
avahi/networkmanager/dnsmasq. I do some further investigations.

Bug description:
After plugging a ethernet cable into the laptop (Dell Latitude E7440),
Network Manager picks up as expected, requests a IP address and
configures the interface. After a couple of seconds, the interface
stops working. The interface start to response to packets only after
unplugging the cable and plugging it in again; disabling and enabling
the interface does not help.
With dmesg I can see some ACPI errors everytime I plug a cable:

The 15 second gap between "Link is Up" and the ACPI error matches
nicely the max. 15 ping echoes received.
I found bug 1501993 " drivers/gpu/drm/i915/intel_display.c:12326
check_crtc_state+0x2c5/0x440 [i915]() ", which has a completely
different effect, but states exactly the same ACPI errors in comment
#35.
Tried BIOS A16, A10 and A04, also kernels 4.2.0-18-generic
(current), 4.2.0-16-generic and the vanilla 4.3.0-040300-generic, but
without any effect or changed behaviour.
