Message #154915
[Bug 1527740] Re: Touchpad intermittently stops working
OK moving back to confirmed
Have had the new BIOS running for a week and have seen the issue recur
several times.
Current workaround is to boot up, and then open [ System Properties -->
Mouse and Touchpad ] mouse properties, where i will only see General
(and not Touchpad). I then close the lid and walk away for several
minutes. It seems that lately this works after 1-5 tries, but I suspect
its really luck of the draw. In every case, after one suspend or
laptop-lid-close, the Touchpad category will show up, but will not
necessarily mean that the touchpad works.
** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu)
Status: Incomplete => Confirmed

Title:
Touchpad intermittently stops working
Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
Confirmed
Bug description:
Touchpad intermittently stops working on lenovo carbon x1 (gen1)
If I close the lid, or sometimes disable and then re-enable touchpad
in BIOS, it may sometimes come back. Sometimes running the software
updater seems to fix or break it, but this may be incidental
also perhaps incidental, im using virtualbox alot, and thats really
the only thing new in my workflow.
when it doesn't work, xinput list sometimes does not show the device.
Once it shows, i can see properties in system settings -> mouse and
touchpad', but that doesn't necessarily mean the touchpad is going to
come alive.
If it does start to work, it often works across several reboots.
i've attached some additional files in a tarball:
-- beforeaAndAfterLidClose -- this was a run of cat /proc/bus/input/devices before and after closing lid ... note that after closing and reopening, the TouchPad shows up.
-- dmesg
-- devices: a full '/cat/proc/bus/devices', obtained after the touchpad reappeared, which will show the vendor information
-- Xorg.0.log
