  I changed the card, problem still here;
  I tried an old(er) kernel I had in stock: 3.2.0-32-generic: the problem *totally* disappeared !

  Conclusion: always have an old kernel at hand..

  EDIT: The problem seems to have occured in 3.2.0-2x, and solved in 3.2.0-3x ..
  A possible regression ?

- EDIT2: Problem does not occur with kernel 3.8.0-30-generic.
