There is no support on such deprecated version; that one has died long
time ago.

Binary package hint: udisks
I have a 2.5'' HDD plugged in an USB-ATA adapter and GNOME Disk
Utility displays as SMART not supported.
Instead with smartctl I can read all values.
HDD: FUJITSU MHT2040AT
Adapter (lsusb): ID 04b4:6830 Cypress Semiconductor Corp. CY7C68300A EZ-USB AT2 USB 2.0 to ATA/ATAPI
