[Bug 1544247] [NEW] package linux-image-extra-3.19.0-31-generic 3.19.0-31.36~14.04.1 failed to install/upgrade: package linux-image-extra-3.19.0-31-generic is not ready for configuration cannot configure (current status `half-installed')

Public bug reported:

System reports no room for upgrade. Have tried several solutions that I
have found online to remove old kernels and none work. Unless a workable
solution presents I plan to eventually repartition when the next LTS
system comes out (will wait a few months for any major bugs to be
reported and fixed. Without a solution wuill hobble along until next
major upgrade.
