[Bug 1227023] Re: Machine locks up a few times a day
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v3.12 kernel[0].
If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.
If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.
If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".
Thanks in advance.

Title:
Machine locks up a few times a day
Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
Confirmed
Bug description:
My machine is locking up a few times a day. These lockups seem to be
graphics-related -- they often occur when opening a new tab in
Chromium or a new window or Unity indicator menu shows on the screen
-- but are not universally so. Sometimes the machine will lock up of
its own accord when no-one is using it at all.
When locked up, the machine is unresponsive to keypresses and mouse
movements; I cannot, for example, switch to a virtual console. It will
not answer ssh connections (the network going down is why I think it
might be a kernel problem rather than X). It *does* respond to
SysRq+REISUB. However, SysRq+1t does not leave any trace in kern.log
after a reboot.
I have run memtest86 overnight and it shows no errors.
This started happening under raring; I have upgraded to saucy in the
hope that it would fix the problem and it has not. It occurs using
both Xorg and Xmir.
I am unable to trigger the problem at will.
