[Bug 1040053] Re: [Dell XPS 15 L502X] no HDMI support with dual grafic card in Ubuntu 12.04LTS with 3.2.0-29-generic

asgard2, ok. So to start from the beginning, in Precise if you use
Bumblebee, it's not supported by Ubuntu, as it's not in the Precise
repository, but a PPA.

With this in mind, your Precise lspci showed your nvidia card wasn't
even working, and everything seemed to be flowing through your Intel
card (probably due to Bumblebee not working right or you had nvidia card
disabled in BIOS).

Despite that, just to clarify on your Saucy test, all you did was have
both graphics cards enabled in BIOS, no Bumblebee, and was relying on
only nouveau, correct?

As well, if you install the nvidia drivers only in Saucy (no Bumblebee)
does your HDMI work for you?

Title:
  [Dell XPS 15 L502X] no HDMI support with dual grafic card in Ubuntu
  12.04LTS with 3.2.0-29-generic

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  The HDMI port is not working via Ubuntu 12.04LTS with 3.2.0-29-generic, newest nvidia driver with bumblebee.
  $ dpkg --status nvidia-current | grep Version
  Version: 304.37-0ubuntu1~precise~xup1

  This also doesn't work in Saucy via nouveau (i.e. no nvidia
  drivers+bumblebee).

  second monitor is plugged in on HDMI but is not recognized:
  $ xrandr
  Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1366 x 768, maximum 8192 x 8192
  LVDS1 connected 1366x768+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 344mm x 194mm
     1366x768       60.1*+
     1360x768       59.8     60.0
     1024x768       60.0
     800x600        60.3     56.2
     640x480        59.9
  VGA1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
  HDMI1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
  DP1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)

  A indirect solution is to connect the monitor on the mini DP
  connector over a DP adapter:

  $ xrandr
  Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 3286 x 1080, maximum 8192 x 8192
  LVDS1 connected 1366x768+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 344mm x 194mm
     1366x768       60.1*+
     1360x768       59.8     60.0
     1024x768       60.0
     800x600        60.3     56.2
     640x480        59.9
  VGA1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
  HDMI1 connected 1920x1080+1366+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 477mm x 269mm
     1920x1080      59.9*+   60.0
     1680x1050      60.0
     1280x1024      75.0     60.0
     1280x960       75.0
     1152x864       75.0
     1280x720       75.0
     1024x768       75.1     60.0
     800x600        75.0     60.3
     640x480        75.0     60.0
     720x400        70.1
  DP1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
