Title:
kernel panic, disk not bootable afterward

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
Installed xubuntu 14.04.3 on Thinkpad T42 type 2378, with forcepae.
Worked fine for several hours, went through one round of Ubuntu
updates and reboot. Walked away for a bit, came back to kernel panic
screen with exit code 0x00000087 (not sure how many zeroes). Disk was
not bootable afterward. Had to use USB boot and boot-repair to get it
  to boot again.
