[Bug 558657] Re: mouse usage causes Xorg CPU usage to spike, and mouse pointer becomes less responsive

I also have this bug. When I rotate my mouse over my web-browser, I can
get the cpu usage to spike as high as 40%. When I am not moving the
mouse, it shows 1% usage. Rotating the mouse over a terminal window, it
jumps to 3-5%.

Title:
mouse usage causes Xorg CPU usage to spike, and mouse pointer becomes
  less responsive

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: xorg

Over time, my mouse pointer becomes more and more erratic and
unresponsive. It never becomes unusable, but it gets jerky and hard
to use. If I run 'top', I can watch Xorg CPU usage spike in direct
correlation to how much I move the mouse around (and the mouse
performance gets worse while I'm doing this). If I wave the mouse
pointer around a lot, CPU will reliably hit 100%, and the pointer will
be far behind my physical gestures with the mouse (and will continue
to move for a while after I stop moving the mouse). CPU climbs back
down after I stop moving the mouse.

When I first log in, everything is fine. This problem gets worse the
longer I stay in the same X Session. I haven't tried logging out back
to GDM and logging back in; if you need me to I can try that.

Switching between windows / desktops is also increasingly sluggish.

This is all on Ubuntu lucid (development branch).

I don't know if this is related to any of these bugs:
