[Bug 1567324] Re: System crashes when opening Facebook on Firefox
As a side note, what would be the process to safely "rollback" these
package updates? Synaptic does not let me force the meta-packages to the
previous version, and simply removing the kernel headers and image
sounds scary...

Title:
System crashes when opening Facebook on Firefox
Status in linux-lts-utopic package in Ubuntu:
New
Bug description:
I am flagging this as a linux bug because it occurs after an update of
the kernel, but this could as well be a Firefox issue.
Yesterday (2016-04-06), as part of the regular package updates, the kernel was updated to version 3.16.0-69. Since then, when I open Facebook on Firefox the system crashes abruptly after a couple of seconds. Everything freezes, the system does not react to mouse or keyboard inputs, and the only thing I can do is force-reboot the computer.
The problem occurs consistently with Facebook. It also occured on another website (pluralsight.com), but I was not able to reproduce. The only common point between those two websites I can see, as opposed to other websites where there is no problem, is that they consume a lot of resources. I will add other sites here if I find any.
The problem does not occur when opening Facebook from Chromium.
Please find below an extract of apt/history.log showing the updated
packages:

I am attaching an extract of /var/log/kern.log that contains some data logged when the crash happened. It seems to be binary data as the less command just shows a sequence of "^@" characters. The line before is not related I think, as it was already present before the crash. The line after is the reboot starting. I hope the text editor did not alter the binary data when saving the file, if it did please let me know a way of extracting the data.
