Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v4.6 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
"Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

Title:
Monitor intermittently turns off and back on again

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
I'm experiencing an issue after upgrading from Xubuntu 15.10 to 16.04. I'm using a Dell Latitude E7450, attached to a docking station, and connected to two Dell U2715H via mDP, both displaying 2560x1440.
Each of the displays intermittently turns off for about 2 or 3 seconds, and then turns back on again. I couldn't tell whether this behaviour is specifically triggered by anything - it seems to happen randomly. There is no notification from the screen's OSD when it goes black.
The issue does not occur when the system is booted with the previously installed kernel, 4.2.0-35-generic.

Please let me know if you need any further information.
