[Bug 1574869] Re: USB controllers are not recognized (live and install 16.04 Xenial)

 

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v4.6 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
"Confirmed".

Title:
  USB controllers are not recognized (live and install 16.04 Xenial)

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  USB controllers are not recognized on  Ubuntu Studio 16.04 LTS on a
  Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD5 system [on chip 2.0 controller (via AMD SB950)
  and external onboard 3.0 controller (Etron EJ168)].  Changing EFI
  values in BIOS has no effect - system performs nominally within
  Win8.1.

  DVD boots (EFI and legacy load) the live system where no USB devices
  are recognized.

  USB stick boots (EFI and legacy) with a menu but soon ends with the
  following msg:

  [	4.896013] usb 4-3: device descriptor read/64, error -32
  [	5.248018] usb 4-3: device descriptor read/64, error -32
  [	5.477047] usb 4-3: device descriptor read/64, error -32
  [	6.105027] usb 4-3: device not accepting address 4, error -32
  [	6.632023] usb 4-3: device not accepting address 4, error -32
  [	6.632068] usb usb4-port3: unable to enumerate USB device

  
  BusyBox v1.22.1 (Ubuntu 1:1.22.0-15ubuntu1) built-in shell (ash)
  Enter 'help' for a list ob built-in commands.

  (initramfs) Unable to find a medium containing a live file system

  
  Last but not least Ubuntu Studio cant be installed due to other bugs (LAN failure and EFI grub installation abort).
