Title:
Call trace and “TCP: out of memory… consider tuning tcp_mem”

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
The install on a remote machine was upgraded to the trusty-lts kernel
as stated in the HWE instructions. There is a bridge (br0) configured
with the Ethernet interface (eth0) through the interfaces(5)
configuration. After a couple of hours the machine would only respond
to ICMP queries and connections with all services running on TCP ports
could not be established. Therefore, a hard reboot was issued.
Attached is the contents of /var/log/kern.log, post-reboot, with what
seems to be relevant information (call trace, kernel message with
“TCP: out of memory… consider tuning tcp_mem”, etc) around the
relevant timespan. Inbound services running on TCP ports being
inaccessible was first noticed around 02:30 (the machine's time). This
matches up with the first “out of memory” message.

The machine is running precise 12.04.4:

  valdearg@blair:~$ uname -a;dpkg -l linux-generic-lts-trusty linux-image-3.13.0-32-generic;grep 'LTS' /etc/lsb-release;lspci|grep Ether
