[Bug 1578944] Re: regular system freeze - 16.04

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v4.6 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
"Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

Title:
  regular system freeze - 16.04

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
Seems this is common enough to have a few requests on Ask Ubuntu:
  http://askubuntu.com/search?q=16.04+freeze

I would update my kernel, as suggested, however there are not clear
instructions and I have had issues doing kernel upgrades in the past.
The freezes are not Chrome only, as they also occur when Chrome is not
running, though, from memory, Steam uses some of the same things as
Chrome. Once the freeze happens a hard reset (holding down the power
button) and restarting is the only solution (I can't even open a CLI
  instance).

Thanks for your time, hope there is a fix soon. Best regards,

  Taz
