[Bug 1575467] Re: [Dell Inspiron 3451] WARNING: CPU: 1 PID: 1297 at /build/linux-lts-utopic-vy2yyy/linux-lts-utopic-3.16.0/drivers/gpu/drm/i915/intel_display.c:1743 vlv_wait_port_ready+0x126/0x170 [i915]()
Could you all please read up on
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=109051
I know it's a long read, but we're chasing the same bug and duplicating
a LOT of effort. BzukTuk for example found the 4.2.0 commit
8fb55197e6... on februari 1 2016. But the problems started around 3.16
and disappear somewhere in the 4.1.x line and are reintroduced in 4.2 by
8fb55197e6..., but different. It now takes longer (sometimes days) for
the freezes to occur. So many think we're actually looking at two, maybe
three problems at the same time, which makes bisecting extremely
difficult. Reverting 8fb55197e6... in current kernels does NOT solve the
problem I know for sure (I tried) unless I made a mistake because the
commit does not completely match current state of i915 driver.
My apologies if I sound pedantic... I too, hope joined efforts will get
this (these) bugs squashed as soon as possible, but please refrain from
"me too" posts. The report is already flooded as it is.

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
In Progress
Bug description:
After upgrading from stock Ubuntu 14.04 to 16.04 my laptop
consistently freezes up and is unresponsive to keyboard or mouse. The
only way is to do a hard shutdown. I'm usually in a browser when this
happens, and often watching a video or two. It seems to happen more
often in Google Chrome than Firefox, but it happens with both. It has
happened at least once with no videos loaded. I haven’t observed it
freeze / hang when I’m not in a browser, but that's mainly what i use
my laptop for, so that's where most of my time is spent.
