[Bug 584866] Re: lucid regression: suspend to RAM broken on HP Compaq 6710b

Tomas Pospisek, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an
issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development
release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p linux <replace-with-bug-number>

Also, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Please do not test the daily kernel folder, but the one all the way at the bottom. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For example:
kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.12-rc2

This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

As well, please remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's
Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your
understanding.

Title:
lucid regression: suspend to RAM broken on HP Compaq 6710b

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  - works with Karmic kernel: 2.6.31-21.59
  - does not work with Lucid kernel: 2.6.32-22.33
  - Ubuntu's mainline kernel works however is broken in a different way: 2.6.34-999.201005231006

When using Lucid's Kernel 2.6.32-22.33, then one of the following
things happen when I suspend either through the menu or by closing the
  lid:

  * the laptop starts to suspend, locks the screen, works for a while and nothing
happens and I have to unlock the screen to get back to the desktop

  * the laptop will blank the screen but the power leds will stay on, as if the
laptop was on, however the fan is not working, suggesting that the
    laptop is actually off

  * the laptop will blank the screen but will stay on. Since I couldn't figure out how
to make it light on the screen again I had to shut it down.

I checked the dmesg and kern.log logs but couldn't find anything
  conclusive in there.

Ubuntu's mainline kernel: 2.6.34-999.201005231006 is even weirder:

When I boot into it, the only thing I shortly see is "Starting Up..."
and then the screen goes blank and stays that way. The fan goes to max
and the air coming out becomes really hot. Then since apparently the
bootup process is telling me that it can't mount some non-automount
partition i press "S" and the boot continues. Out of the blue the
login appears. I log in and I see that udevd is turning at 100% CPU.
