Title:
[Asus UX31A] Linux 3.8.0-27 & Linux 3.8.0-29 render system unbootable
with "black screen of death"
Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
Invalid
Bug description:
Ever since upgrading to xubuntu 13.04 (from 12.10), my system has been
experiencing start up failures resulting in a "black screen of death"
with nothing but a blinking cursor in the top left corner. This
happened every so often, and despite it being immensely annoying, I
could "live" with it.
However, upgrading to linux 3.8.0-27 resulted in a totally unbootable
system. It fails repeatedly and NEVER succeeds. I persistently arrive
at the aforementioned "black screen of death".
I had hoped that upgrading to linux 3.8.0-29 might have fixed the
problem...alas it did not. So I am still unable to boot into my
system.
Only by selecting linux 3.8.0-26 under advanced options in GRUB does
it let me arrive at the lightdm login screen...but please note that,
as I had said above, even this suffers from the occassional "black
screen of death".
The problem has thus existed since upgrading to raring 13.04, but has
ultimately failed resulting in an unbootable system in linux 3.8.0-27
& 3.8.0-29.
I hope the above helps.
I would be grateful if someone could please tell me if this bug will
be fixed within raring or if it must wait until saucy arrives?
Regards,
Christopher
