Message #23444
[Bug 1242946] Re: "Disks" utility systematically fails to format disk; no understandable reason is given
I don't really think this has anything to do with the kernel, it's just
that I don't know what package the "Disks" utility belongs to (nor what
the real program name is, for that matter). If only Ubuntu didn't have
this damn confusing naming policy, it would be easier to report bugs.

Title:
"Disks" utility systematically fails to format disk; no understandable
reason is given
Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
I have no idea what package this is. This is the tool that is called
"Disks" in Ubuntu.
The screenshot shows the disk I'm trying to format. I click on the gear-like icon on the top right and select "format disk".
I get the error message that can be seen in the screenshot.
If there's a good reason why the disk cannot be formatted, then the
error message must be clearer and explain what the user likely has to
do in order to be able to format the disk. This error message is too
cryptic and gives zero information to any user other than the
developers who created this tool.
I've been able to format the disk by deleting all the partitions one
by one, then creating the partition I wanted. I would expect "format
disk" to be equivalent to that.
