Title:
  Winbond super I/0 chip W83627DHG and nForce2_smbus conflicts with ACPI

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
  * What I expected
  To be able to use fancontrol to manage CPU fan speed

  * What actually happens
  ACPI and the module for the W83627DHG (W83627ehf) conflicts. the moudle w83627ehf is therefore not loaded correctly and temperature and fan RPMs can therefore not be read.

  * How to recreate the problem
  Happens every time I turn on the computer

  I have tried booting with acpi_enforce_resources=lax, but that results
  in system freezes.

  Booting with acpi=off allows w83627ehf to be loaded, fancontrol to
  control the RPMs of the CPU fan, but also creates problems with sound
  playback in music and video files and low frame rates when playing
  videos (probably related to the sound issues)

  I've also tried booting with the options suggested here:
  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingACPI. All options other than acpi=off
  and acpi=ht leads to either a non-responsive system during boot or a
  system that freezes. The freezes don't always start right after the
  system has booted. Sometimes it takes hours (maybe something to do
  with suspend?) but eventually the system will lock up

  In dmesg I have found the following conflicts between ACPI and the I/O
  chip

  [   10.856429] ACPI: resource nForce2_smbus [io  0x1c80-0x1cbf]
  conflicts with ACPI region SM01 [io 0x1c80-0x1cbf]

  [ 10.856431] ACPI: If an ACPI driver is available for this device,
  you should use it instead of the native driver

  [ 10.946400] [Firmware Bug]: ACPI(IGPU) defines _DOD but not _DOS

  [ 10.948958] ACPI: Video Device [IGPU] (multi-head: yes rom: no
  post: no)

  [   10.972197] ACPI: resource w83627ehf [io  0x0295-0x0296] conflicts
  with ACPI region SEN1 [io 0x295-0x296]

  [ 10.972200] ACPI: If an ACPI driver is available for this device,
  you should use it instead of the native driver

  I haven't been able to find ACPI drivers for either the nForce2_smbus
  or w83627ehf
