[Bug 1243431] Re: Ubuntu 13.10 64bit installer won't boot unless acpi=off on Dell Optiplex 745

I have some new information.

This issue has something to do with processor type. I replaced nothing
more but processor to Pentium Dual E2160 and suddenly x64 live cd
managed to boot sucessfully. I took lspci, lshw and dmidecode of this
'upgraded' system, see attachment 'acpi-e2160.zip'.

Symmetrically, when I installed 'Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6600' into other
computer (namely Optiplex 755) it stopped to boot on x64 bit version. So
processor type seems to be the clue.

Title:
Ubuntu 13.10 64bit installer won't boot unless acpi=off on Dell
  Optiplex 745

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I am booting live cd of Ubuntu 13.10 Desktop 64bit but it ends with kernel panic because of some issues with acpi. I tried the following:
   - when I provide parameter acpi=off it boots ok.
   - when I provide acpi=ht (or no parameter) it generates kernel panic (see the screenshot in attachment).

Moreover I can run 32bit version of Mint 15 with no acpi issues which
suggests that only 64bit version is affected.

There is attachment with two subdirectories: one contains data from
Ubuntu 13.10 64 bits livecd taken with acpi=off and the second taken
  from 32bit version Mint 15.
