Title:
Kernel causes HDMI Audio, network cards to stop working
Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
Confirmed
Bug description:
I noticed when i restarted my laptop (HP 630 after installing the
latest stable linux kernel (linux-image-13.110.13-generic:amd64
13.11.0-13.20), there was no sound, i could not connect to the
internet via either cable or wireless and the graphics was slow. On
further inspection i found out no network manager displayed "network
devices available" and there was a dummy output in sound settings.
After searching the internet i came across this link ---> http://askubuntu.com/questions/294016/no-sound-in-ubuntu-13-04-only-dummy-output-device-listed
After following the instruction and choosing an earlier version of kernel (3.11.0-12-generic), all the issues were resolved. I have ubuntu 13.10 installed.
Below is the comment that helped. Hope this is helpful in some way to deal with the issue with the latest kernel.
"I also had it - Does sound work before reboot after one update? If yes it is probably the same.
It's bug related to kernel 3.8.0-18.
Run uname -r to check your version of Kernel. If it is 3.8.0-18-generic - try next steps
Reboot and in GRUB select Advanced options
Chose Ubuntu with Kernel ... (Any before -18)
Also you can subscribe this bug at Launchpad, I hope they will fix it soon"
