[Bug 1058192] Re: Xubuntu cannot be shutdown using software

Tipi Koivisto, as per http://download.lenovo.com/express/ddfm.html an
update is available for your BIOS (1.23). If you update to this
following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BiosUpdate , does it change
anything?

If not, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful.

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Thank you for your understanding.

** Summary changed:

- Xubuntus cannot be shutdown using software
+ Xubuntu cannot be shutdown using software

** Description changed:

- I have two Lenovos (ideapad S205 and L5210) and those can be shutdown only by pressing power-button. Making a shutdown in every possible way from UI or command line the computer just freezes. I can even hear the hard drive shutting down.
-
- There is also a bug raport about it and this bug is been around a long time so I decided to make another one.
-
- One thing I dont understand is that Linux Mint is based on Ubuntu and it
- does not have the same bug. Not in Mint XFCE 12 nor 13. How is this
- possible?
-
- Let me know if I can help somehow. This is very annoying bug and I tried
- to fix, but I really don't have a clue where it comes from.
-
- Here is one of the reported bugs.
