Title:
10ec:8176 Unreliable wireless connectivity with Realtek 8188ce

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
I have an Lenovo X220 Laptop. It has the following wireless card (as
  shown by lshw)

                  description: Wireless interface

                  configuration: broadcast=yes driver=rtl8192ce driverversion=3.2.0-38-generic firmware=N/A ip=192.168.11.10 latency=0 link=yes multicast=yes wireless=IEEE 802.11bgn
                  resources: irq:17 ioport:5000(size=256) memory:d2400000-d2403fff

  I am running kernel 3.2.0-38-generic.

Recently (in the last week or two) I noticed long dropouts in my internet connectivity. At first I assumed the unreliability was due to my ISP. We often have problems during seasons changing but then I noticed the following details, times are estimated:
  1) I would have fairly random dropouts several times (5-20) an hour. Each would last somewhere around 1-4 minutes.
  2) The network manager still showed strong signal (3-4 "bars")
  3) My other devices (iPod, other computers, etc) in the house were able to use the internet fine during these times.
  4) I found my laptop unable to ping my network gateway, a router in my house.

These lead me to suspect the problem was with my laptop as nothing else was having troubles. The logs showed no messages that appeared to relevant. In the end I downloaded the latest driver. Support for the "rt8188ce" is provided by the rt8192ce driver from realtek's website
  http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PFid=48&Level=5&Conn=4&ProdID=272&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false&Downloads=true

The version I downloaded was 0012.0207.2013
Here is a direct link to the driver package. I know it looks sketchy but it is what "US2" points to.
  ftp://WebUser:wK9xBuD5@207.232.93.28/cn/wlan/linux_mac80211_0012.0207.2013.tar.bz2

I compiled and installed it with the following commands

  make
  make install

and my networking has not shown dropouts over the last 12 hours, a
  vast improvement.
